SEO Strategies And Techniques

By Jason Bolles

Modern Search Engine Optimization Techniques

Twenty years ago most companies did not have a website yet. But anymore it is hard to find a business that does not have a website. And if you have a website then I am sure you would like people to actually visit that website. But if you want people to be able to find your website, you have to make it easy for them. So in this article I want to talk about search engine optimization, or SEO for short.

First let's define what search engine optimization is. As you may have guessed by the name, it is when you tweak your website so that it will rank better in search engines when someone searches for the right keywords. If you rank well in search engines you will get a lot of free traffic, but if you don't rank well you won't get much traffic. If you sell anything on your website, then your profits directly correlate to the amount of traffic you receive. So you can see why it is nice to have one of the top positions in search engines.

Search engine algorithms are constantly changing and ranking is unfortunately not quite as simple as it used to be. You used to be able to put up a page and have it rank well the next day, but that rarely happens anymore. It is still possible to get fast SEO results, but you need to know what you are doing and continue to boost those rankings over time.

On-page optimization is still the most important factor. This means choosing your domain name wisely and including your main keywords in your website name, page titles, and header tags on your website. Doing this will let search engine spiders know which keywords to rank you for. Use all the keywords you want to rank for at least one place on your site. Internal linking between your pages is another modern SEO strategy that has proven effective.

The other factor is off-page SEO. Typically that just means getting backlinks. Generally the more backlinks you can get, the better you will rank. However, backlinks from authority sites will definitely be more useful than a ton of weak profile links. Try to get links from relevant websites and not just random links.

Search engine optimization is one of the best free traffic-getting techniques available. However SEO is a little more complicated than it used to be and it takes time to see lasting results. If this sounds like too much work to do on your own, then just hire some help. There are many SEO services, companies, and consultants that can help you with any of these techniques and even do long-term SEO work for you.
