Why I like Roger Federer

By Davis Pete

I am always fascinated by the way the professional tennis players play the game of tennis. I always get inspired by the hard work they put in on and off court. These professional players have so much determination and perseverance in their training and during matches which helps them to succeed. Many of these professional tennis players are both physically and mentally strong and in order to be strong in these two important aspects of tennis, these players sweat off and on court and are always hungry for success. It is every child's dream to be top 10 in the world one day and even to win a grand slam. Although I like many tennis players, my favorite tennis player would be the number 1 in the world, Roger Federer. Roger Federer (born August 8, 1981) is a Swiss professional tennis player who, in 2004, became the world's top tennis player.

My favorite tennis player is Roger Federer because he has been my idol from a very young age. He is truly a genius at work on the court as he is constantly thinking of how to outwit the opponent and win the point. Watching him play is always so entertaining and I can always learn so much from his game. I would always watch his matches and would always be amazed at how well he uses the court to make his opponents run. Federer has an accurate and good serve which he uses to his advantage by pulling the opponent out wide and then hitting down-the-line. Roger is just unpredictable in the game of tennis as he is an all-rounded player and can control the ball so well that he can create points and opportunities for himself. Moreover, Roger Federer is very good at changing the rhythm and pace of the ball to force an error off his opponent's racket. Roger is also amazing at controlling his emotions. He has a "poker-face" on court and never really shows any emotions besides an occasional fist pump or 'c'mon'. I also really admire the Swiss Maestro's game as he plays so effortlessly and gracefully. Whenever he steps on court there is always this very calm and composed aura that just resonates from him.

I also admire Roger Federer's determination and competitive spirit. He says 'You always want to win. That is why you play tennis, because you love the sport and try to be the best you can at it.' This shows that he is a determined person with that competitive drive that spurs him on to work harder and press on towards success. This is what brought him to win 17 Grand Slam titles breaking the previous all-time men's record of 14 by Pete Sampras. Federer's list of achievements is countless and the Swiss has managed to break many records in his years of playing in the professional circuit.

Despite all these remarkable achievements, Roger Federer is still humble and displays great sportsmanship on court. A player should have good character and attitude Roger Federer has great attitude and character and I am truly inspired by the Swiss' sportsmanship and attitude on and off court. He is still hungry for success and is willing to work even harder to scale greater heights.

In conclusion, Roger Federer has indeed been an inspiration and I have learnt a lot from him character wise and tennis wise. He is truly an amazing sportsman and people should learn from his cool and composed attitude. I have been motivated by Roger's competitive spirit and determined attitude to work harder on and off court. I will always admire Roger Federer and will keep learning from his game. He will always remain my favorite player of all time. Alle Federer!
