Fresh Christian Grief Counseling Techniques

By Jeffrey Wilson

Christians have to deal with grief situations from time to time. To find a lasting solution requires the use of Christian grief counseling techniques that are approved by professionals. These techniques guarantee closure and make it easier to deal with the loss.

Acknowledging the compassionate nature of God will help Christians to overcome most of the challenges they face. There is compassion in Christ that will enable you face any challenge. This compassion can be understood better when you read the bible and other books that are written to expound on the bible.

Share with family members and fellow Christians on the troubling issues. Christianity is about living in a community. This allows you to share in the joys and misfortunes of one member of this family. It can be the immediate family members or the family of Christ. This sharing should be guided and involve a reflection on how to handle the issue better.

Understand the promise of God about death and meeting your loved ones in heaven. This will take away the veil of sorrow and help you focus on your journey to heaven. The promise of God is that all the sorrow suffered on earth will come to an end in heaven. With this in mind, it will be easier to let go for now knowing that you will be together in heaven. In fact, you gain consolation in the knowledge that the departed is at a good place with the father in heaven.

Pray for the intervention of God during your grieving moment. Prayer helps you to reflect on what God has done in your life and that of people surrounding you. You gain strength as you face the current sorrowful situation. You also focus on good memories you shared and are thankful about it. The assurance and strength that comes from prayers is important during grief.

The grieving person should take to personal devotion as a way of finding solutions to the loss. There is a unique way in which every person encounters God. Some take to singing while others dance, read the bible, take walks or pray in a personal manner. These devotions create a personal moment with God that will enable you deal with the current situation better. It is also a way of strengthening your personal relationship with God.

A grieving person should be encouraged to go for a retreat. The aim is to find a quiet place where prayer can be deepened and communication with God made more effective. The presence of friends and relatives can be a huge distraction. You are also required to make plans for sending off the departed. You have no time to talk to God and even raise issues that could be bothering you at the moment.

Go on a pilgrimage to a place where you can reflect on the current situation. Leave your ordinary environment and find a place where you can listen to God. Once you leave the ordinary space, it is easier to get to terms with what you are going through. This makes any situation easier to deal with.

Encourage the grieving person to talk to spiritual leaders and mentors. They have a better understanding of issues and will provide the guidance you need. God also speaks to people through those He has anointed.
