Importance Of Street Lighting In Cities

By Essie Osborn

Paths and roads are fitted lamps that are fixed on long posts which are meant to provide light to street users. The putting off and on these lamps is normally controlled from one central position. In recent development they have been improved in such a way that they can control themselves by sensing when its dark so that they can light up and switch off when its day time. Street lighting is important in that it save people from accidents and reduce wrongdoings.

The lamps are not only meant to serve the public at night but are also used during the day when there is dark whether for drivers to see clearly. They are usually fixed on tall poles situated alongside the roads and also may be fixed in the utility poles.

According to research done on high crime areas, it has been noted that proper lighting in the roads has a positive effect of reducing these wrongdoings. This is because with enough light most people are not fearful, are not disorderly and keeps the wrong doers in fear of being seen and caught.

When these lamps are being put, there should be a consideration of the intensity of light they emit. The one that emit a lot of light are not encouraged for they make one not to see properly. This much light sends one tensing for u cannot see long distances. These road illumination should have minimal light which have the ability to eliminate shadow for one to see clearly.

The cost of fittings these lamps though is much adding onto it its maintenance. A much as one may argue that it is really not clear which type of crimes are cut down by illumination or even it is not possible to attach a figure of the importance of it, it still remains that these road light can never be a miss.

Other than cutting down the crime rate, these lights have been seen to make people work for long hours a day for there is no fear of returning to their homes and where they are working and this brings about development. It simply would turn a city into an all round the clock economy. Another consequence of this lighting is reducing of night times accidents which makes sure the people building the economy are secure.

Form the conducted research there has been proof that it aids in reducing the rate of accidents occurrences. This could be true considering that many of the injuries from accidents are normally during the night. It is known that at night the road rules may be bended since there are rarely police men on the roads and hence the drivers are at liberty to do whatever they want. However, though this may be done the essential of light remains important in helping cut down accident rate.

It has there therefore been concluded that the presence of enough illumination is much appreciated by the public and if there may be something that should be done about it is increase its presence. The environmental disadvantage associated with this lighting does not supersede its importance.
