Why Google Should Be Afraid Of Twitter And Facebook

By Abraham Joseph

Google dominates over other search engines. Many use the word "google" as a term for performing a search on the internet. But while Google may not have much competition from other search engines, they do have some real competition from social sites. Here's why Google should be afraid of Twitter and Facebook.

Times have changed, and social media has now become much more popular than searching for items on the web. Likewise, advertising through companies like Facebook have really given Google a run for the money because of the social aspect of this type of advertising. Let's look at why social sites are a threat to Google, and how you can capitalize on the benefits of using social media today.

When users get their news through social media sites, they don't need to head over to Google to do a search. Instead, they can simply click the many links that others are already sharing. They may trust links from their friends more than they trust Google's search results.

Social media sites also allow people to get personalized search results. If someone wants to know more about a movie, or would like to get a book recommendation, they're far more likely to use social media than Google. They can ask their friends answers to the questions and get answers tailored directly to them. Google can't provide that.

Because there are other reasons to be on social media sites, users will find ways to use them for their searches whenever they can. If they want to know more about a celebrity, they may check their Facebook page or hashtag rather than starting up an internet search. Why take the other step when they could keep using a site they already enjoy? Google attempted to enter the social site realm with Google+, but that venture has been less than successful. If Google wants to stay on the top of their game, they need to offer a better social site experience.
