Birthday Fireworks And More Kids Party Planning Ideas

By Luisa Sharpe

Party planning can be a lot of fun, especially when planning an event for children. However, if you haven't planned a party before, it can be daunting. Whether you are planning for your own child, or for a friend's or sibling's child, you may need some ideas to get you started. Remember to stay within your budget! Birthday fireworks are great, but not every one is able to afford something that extravagant.

Even if you cannot afford a huge, extravagant celebration, you can definitely create a party that kids will love. Often, children do not have a concept of how much something costs. All they know is whether or not they had fun. Here are some tips and things to keep in mind to help you plan the party and keep your sanity.

1. Choose a theme. This will make all of the planning easier, especially when it comes to decorations. If your child has a favorite character, such as Doc McStuffins or Spongebob Squarepants, make that character the theme of the party. Buy plates, cups, and banners that go with the theme. You could even dress up your child like the character!

2. Keep the food simple. You do not want to spend hours preparing the food, nor do you want to spend hours cleaning up the kitchen. There are other aspects of the party to focus on, too. Choose simple items like chicken wings, hot dogs, or pizza. You can even pick it up from a restaurant to minimize the prep time. Just make sure you place your order in advance. Your cake can fit with the party's theme, and you can order it from a bakery, or make it at home. Make sure to have some beverages and snack foods, too.

3. Plan one main activity and a few supplemental ones. This will depend on your budget. When the money is flowing, many people like to hire petting zoos or clowns, or even have the party at a bounce house or pizza place. However, if your budget doesn't allow for this, there's nothing wrong with doing a movie in the living room or a game in the backyard. You can provide other toys and coloring books for kids who do not want to participate or who become distracted.

4. Add special touches. A candy table is sure to make any party a hit. A special birthday chair for your child will make him or her feel special. You can also send home goodie bags with all of the guests.

5. Ask others for help. You should definitely not be the only adult involved in the planning OR the execution of the party. If you have siblings, enlist them. Get your friends to help. Ask two or three parents to stay with their kids at the party and help supervise. This will make everything run more smoothly.

Organization is the key to planning a great kids' party. Whether you hire a clown, have a friend dress up as Winnie the Pooh, or show a favorite Pixar film with popcorn, the kids will be happy as long as they are entertained. After you have a party or two under your belt, you'll be a party-planning pro!
