Fresh Topics For Youth Leadership Training Programs

By Daniel Adams

Youths have to be trained on how to be leaders at micro and macro level. Once they lead themselves and people around them, they will have the courage to lead the nation. Organizations planning youth leadership training programs need to focus on particular topics that will help develop excellent leaders. Here is a highlight of some of these topics.

Conflict management is a topic that will address the societal and individual struggles that youths have to deal with on daily basis. The topic focuses on identification of conflicts and ways that the conflicts can be resolved amicably. The ideas shared will help youths to isolate instances where they are used to accelerate conflict and how they can deescalate situations.

Youths need to learn about diversity and inclusion. The world is increasingly becoming a singular dwelling place. You can have breakfast in one continent and then fly thousands of miles across the ocean for dinner. Understanding how to live with diverse cultures, religions, social classes and genders, among others, makes the young people amiable and creates an environment that is welcoming to all.

The environment and its conservation are topics that youths should learn every day. They can see the impact of climate change and environmental degradation in different areas around the world. Young people need to know that it takes action at micro level for an impact to be felt at macro level. This action will have to start with them. This is the way to fix the entire world.

Communication gadgets and platforms are everywhere but the youths are still very poor at passing information and interacting. They have dropped formality and use of pristine language. This means that they are locked out of opportunities. It gets worse at non-verbal communication because of holding gadgets and fiddling with them while others speak. It takes a little alignment to produce leaders who can communicate their desires and vision for others to follow.

A lesson on the need for partnerships is important. There is a growing cloud that makes individuals to think that they can achieve anything they wish alone. This is a possibility that has been proven by very many entrepreneurs. However, the need to create partnerships through which you advance your goals cannot be underestimated. This awareness is necessary to make the young people open up to the world and what the right partnerships can do.

Getting young person to focus on a single task or person can be a daunting task. Look around and see people on their phones and with headphones plugged. The level of distraction is alarming. If there is a way they can learn to focus, a lot of change can be felt.

Emotional intelligence can be taught. In some cases, youths need to be sensitized on areas that they can use such character. The topic helps them to listen to the sixth sense and therefore make the right decision. Emotional intelligence will keep you from a lot of trouble.

Youths have a lot to learn even as new issues emerge by the day. Maybe the most important lesson will be on how to build and respect systems because they define how people and institutions interact. As a trainer and facilitator, you must choose a topic that addresses the unique situation of youths under your care.
