Social Media Marketing For The Baby Boomer Generation

By Trina Gildow

You can reach a much broader audience through social media than through more traditional means of advertising. With social media, you're in the driver's seat, and you control the information that reaches your customers. You can spread the news of promotions faster by using social media. To make sure your social marketing campaign is reaching your customers, find out where they congregate. Are many of them on Facebook or do they prefer Twitter? Depending on your niche, you might be better off looking at LinkedIn or even YouTube. Poll your customers and find out where they spend their internet hours. Pitch your tent there.

Create special offers for social media followers. Add in something that no one else is offering to get people to want to like your page. For instance, launch a contest via social media. If you would rather do something else, then offer an item that is exclusive only to them. You can also have announcements that are made specifically on social media websites.

Always make it easy for your website surfers to find your profile on the social media they use through subscription. Many people log onto their favorite social media sites every day, so allowing them to follow you makes it so your business will pop up on their feed when they log in.

If you'd like to get more followers on your social media profiles, don't just use them to sell products. Put factual stories (or fictional tales) and include information that is actually relative to your niche of choice. Interact with your audience, create giveaways, and post images, especially niche-relevant LOL cats. Engage those that follow you. Seek product or service engagement rather than product placement. Get your customers to associate their identity, not their wallet, with your brand.

Stay active on your social media sites. In other words, the more social you are, the more successful you can be. Membership will fall off quickly as your audience loses interest in old content and sees the lack of participation on your part. A good campaign that gives users things to talk about can be very successful conversely.

The blog-feed application can be used for showing your blog posts through your LinkedIn page. When you post your article, it will be displayed as a LinkedIn update. You can save time in this way, and you will get greater exposure by posting to both LinkedIn and to your blog.

You can get your followers' attention by posting something in a format that makes reading easier. For instance, try coming with a list of top 10 tips or writing questions and answers. The visual aspect of your article will make it more appealing and your readers will be more likely to share it.

The word you need to focus on in social media marketing is "social." So before you start ignoring people, remember that your customers actually want to speak with a real person. If just one person has one suggestion, many others do, too. Let them know you are paying attention to what they are telling you.

Now that you have a better idea about how you can become successful with social media marketing you should start to feel more optimistic about your future success. Just try your best to learn as much as you can and to apply all of the knowledge you learn and you should reach any goals you have with social media marketing.
