Viewers of Gold Rush On The Discovery Channel Empathize with Todd Hoffman and His Crew

By Hoyt Fender

As many people have associated reality TV shows with celebrity drama and pop culture, relevant TV shows to the everyday lives of many people have quietly snuck their way into top spots on large networks. A great example of this is gold mining tv show, and it now has a fan base of tens of millions. The part that affects the hearts of many eager fans is mainly that they share the common dream of expressing their free American spirit as is portrayed by the Hoffman crew.

Gold mining has been a respectable occupation for centuries, but the excitement, hardships, and freedom that come with it have been forgotten by the majority. When Discovery TV show suddenly brought it back, millions became instantly addicted and just couldn't get enough. There is just something about the allure of gold, getting your hands dirty, and risking it all that appeals to many, but most people just don't possess the guts to do go out and do it. Or perhaps, they possess more common sense than our beloved stars on Gold Rush on the Discovery Channel.

This real rags-to-riches story initially seemed to have dire foreshadowing for the Hoffman crew during the first season, and the majority of the fans just wanted to see these icons of the American free spirit find at least a little gold. At the end of the first season of Gold Rush on Discovery, it seemed the Hoffman crew was going home not just empty-handed and financially, physically, and mentally broken, but also and heart-broken.

When fans learned there was going to be a second season because the Hoffman crew had now liquidated all of their assets and acquired every loan possible, the enthusiasm for television series about gold mining in Alaska among the tens of millions of fans was almost tangible. It seemed the crew was back in action and ready to execute a new plan based on what they had learned from their mistakes. However, their former and unwanted coworker, Dakota Fred, suddenly threw an unexpected wrench in the Hoffman's plan of mining their beloved Glory Hole.

Todd, with his American spirit burning strong and bright, looked at this setback as just another important part of their trials and tribulations inevitable in such an ambitious journey to strike it rich. The novice, yet strong-willed, gold miner demonstrated his leadership once again as he landed his crew in the Canadian gold-streaked lands known as the Klondike. With the progression of the second season of tv show about gold mining, it appears the luck of the Hoffman crew has finally turned around for the better.
