In Their Battle Against Cancer Vancouver CA Patients Try Many Different Things

By Christopher Morris

Nobody wants to contract a dread disease but life nevertheless deals the cards at it sees fit. Being diagnosed with the big, ugly C is probably one of the worst nightmares of anyone. It is true that great advances have been made in treatment methods and medication, but there is certainly no cure yet. Nevertheless, modern medicine can make sure that patients are more comfortable and that they live longer. In their battle against cancer Vancouver CA patients need courage and help.

The fight against the big C starts at the very moment a diagnosis is made. Patients go through all the standard phases, unbelief, shock, despair and finally, acceptance. Acceptance is important because it is not possible to fight something that one refuse to exist. The nest step in the fight to is get as much information from the doctor as possible, including treatment options and the prognosis.

All patients have to review their life styles. Smokers and alcohol and drug users have to accept that they will have to make drastic adjustments. Many others will have to change their diets and they will have to be willing to give up activities that used to be satisfying to them. In most cases, patients have to also accept the fact that their medication will cause discomfort and that they will simply have to learn to live with it.

The majority of patients put their faith in established treatment methods, They submit to radiology, chemo therapy and medication that may cause them to feel ill, but that may help them get better. This is often a lengthy process and the urge to just give up sometimes arises. In their fight against the disease these patients need to remain determined and motivated, however. Giving up is not an option, really.

A lot of patients, especially those that are already in the late stages of the disease and those that are wealthy, opt for extreme, experimental and foreign treatment. They know that they will not get well with traditional treatment methods and they are therefore willing to take the chance to undergo controversial treatment methods. The will to live is strong, and one could not criticize them.

Then there are the many patients that become convinced that the only way in which they can fight this disease is to seek out alternative remedies. There is no shortage of miracle cures and it is an unfortunate fact that there are many charlatans preying on desperately ill people. Patients try these remedies, however, because they think that there are no other alternatives open to them. They take the risk involved because they are desperate.

Some patients believe that their faith will be their saving grace. They think that their prayers, and the prayers of their loved ones will be enough to cure them. Some patients even seek out the prayers of known faith healers and they firmly believe that only God Himself can cure them. However, there are also many patients that go the spiritual route simply because they need to feel reassured.

Cancer is no joke. It is deadly and millions of people die of these dread diseases every year. There is hope, however. Ongoing research will, hopefully, soon result in significant gains against the fight. In the meantime, patients have to be strong.
