What You Learn During Couples Counseling St Louis MO

By Harold Morgan

As a couple, it is always exciting when you get together. You may have a friendship first and develop a romance or you may find someone who you simply know that you want to spend the rest of your life with. Spending time with this person is great initially. However, complications will arise at some point. Couples counseling St Louis MO is something to look into when you feel that you can't manage the problem on your own.

A couple needs to feel that they can talk about what is bothering them. However, they don't always feel that they can approach their spouse or partner. Communication is essential within a partnership, but this is a major problem and often the most common thing which people experience. They find it easier to ignore the problem.

This obviously causes problems in the relationship. This especially applies when the other person tends to be introverted. They will struggle with this because they will find that they are more likely to drift apart and avoid one another when they are not able to communicate. This seems like the easiest option.

The problem is that it is difficult to get to this point because you have found out more about your partner and their flaws as well as other characteristics. You still love them for their strengths, their values and the reason you were attracted to them in the first place. However, there is so much else to contend with now.

Certain things you have been exposed to during your childhood years can make an impact on your relationships. For example, abuse can cause a person to become codependent, depressed, anxious and to have intimacy problems. These are things that they are not aware of. They need to work on these issues before they think of talking with their spouse.

This will create a lot of conflicts. On the other hand, there are also people that fall in love because they are so alike. They have a lot in common. This means that they will communicate in the same manner. They both like to talk and they both like to argue. It can cause problems in the future because serous arguments break out.

It is obviously a problem for them because they need the attention of their parents. They need role models that they can rely on. If they do go through a time when parents get divorced they will struggle with this a little later in their lives. Many adults even find that they have troubles with this. It can lead to other relationship problems.

It can be one individual who has a serious issue and this may be affecting the relationship. The couple should be able to work together and this is not always easy to do on your own. An example of this can be depression or panic attacks. The other partner needs to understand more about this so they have compassion and understanding. They can then offer their support to their loved one. This will make a big difference.
