How to Reach Your Weight Loss Goals

By Vito La Fata

If you are like many people, you are frustrated because your resolutions for the New Year have fallen by the wayside. Here we are, several months into the New Year, and what do you have to show for it? Have you lost weight? Are you more fit? Are your eating habits better? Probably not.

What people in the media will not tell you is that simply buying a new fitness book or the latest gadget will not guarantee your success in reaching fitness goals. What is needed is to get to the root of why you are falling short of achieving your resolutions to get healthy.

There are several reasons why you may be struggling in the area of fitness. One has to do with your goals. It is likely that your goals are unrealistic. If you set your goals too high, they will be harder to reach. and you will probably give up before you reach them. Try setting small goals.

You may also be unprepared to meet your goal. It is crucial to have a game plan in place when you begin trying to lose weight. If you do not take the time to plan (for example, what days of the week will you work out? What lunches will you take to work with you?), you will find yourself unable to meet your goal.

Your goals may also be too unclear. A general goal is very hard to reach, but specific goals are attainable. For example, rather than saying, "I want to lose weight," say, "I want to lose two inches off my waist in three months." The more specific your goals are, the better your chances of reaching them.

There is still time to achieve those fitness resolutions you made on New Year's Day. Use these tips to set yourself on the path to success in your weight loss journey. You can do this; you just have to take the time necessary to set yourself up for success.
