The Pros And Cons Of Animation For Web Design Companies

By Arthur Williams

To say that GIFs are popular these days would be an understatement. As a matter of fact, they can be found across different forms of media, ranging from instant messaging services to social media. However, it's worth noting the importance of animation for web design companies. If you're thinking about including animation in your own projects, here are a couple of pros & cons that you'd be wise to make note of.

PRO - Animation is almost always more attention-grabbing. According to companies like Lounge Lizard, animated images like GIFs are better at seizing attention than static pictures. The former is always in motion, so it makes sense for the human eye to be drawn to it. The GIFs in question might be funny, scientific, or engaging in general. Whatever the case may be, this is a tremendous pro that shouldn't be easily overlooked.

CON - Animated images are larger in file size. While GIFs do not necessarily have to be big in terms of what's seen, they are undoubtedly large in file size. What this means is that if you include too many of them, your site might load or run slower than expected. This is one of the biggest problems that reputable web design companies can prevent. The bigger the file size of a GIF, the slower a page will take to fire up.

PRO - There's tremendous versatility that animation can offer. There are countless GIFs on the Internet today. Some of them are focused on tricks that pets perform. Others might be geared toward technology in action. Whatever the case may be, it cannot be denied that animation, as we know it today, boasts tremendous versatility. It's simply a matter of what you choose to do with the tools at your disposal.

CON - Poor web animation comes across as pixelated. This is one of the biggest challenges of creating GIFs, no matter how experienced you might be in web design. Without the right tools and strategies in place, your images gain pixelated appearances. Not only does it become difficult to see what's being showcased, but your website suffers because of it. Needless to say, web animation requires effort.
