Actually, the term walker refers to any device, tool or equipment that is used in order to provide movement support. This additional support is offered for sustainability and balance during motion. They were invented in frame forms only and these were the only tools that were used in those days. New developments, innovations, inventions, and advancements have been made over time leading to emergence of a walker with wheels and seat commonly referred to as a rollators. This device has a competitive edge over other moving frames and wheelchairs.

A rollator which is the wheeled walking device was invented by a polio patient. It is made up of a frame and either three or four movable wheels, handlebars, and a place to sit. This makes it possible for the user to stop at any preferred time or position as well as when he needs to rest. They are more convenient that the conventional tools.

One of the characteristic that gives it an advantage over the others is the availability of adjustments. They can be made to reach the required height and length. This is a characteristic that is not found in general wheelchairs. They are also very light when it comes to weight and therefore making them very easy to carry when storing.

The device has a functional braking system attached to handlebars helping the user to move at the right speed. The movement using these appliances is made convenient by using the hand brakes. When the user is in an emergency situation the brakes help him to stop. When the hand brakes are moved upwards the user breaks from a high speed.

This braking characteristic can also be used to make rapid turns when faced with obstacles. By use of emergency braking of side, the rollator will automatically turn on that side. It can also be automatized by incorporation of engine system therefore making it a tool for use by any class of people as a means of transport. This characteristic has made young people use them. This has made stigma associated with its use fade away.

When a person is using this device, his or her mind is at peace as it is not necessary to have a helper with him always. This is attained through the independence created by its use. The ability to remove, fold and adjust the device and seat makes it easy for the user to control himself when climbing down or up. The baskets in them are used by users in keeping their belongings.

Consultations however should be done so that the best tool is bought for the right purpose. For example, recovery helping tool, fitness and completely disabled walkers are totally different. A medical practitioner should be the best to consult.

The major drawback to the use of these tools is that they are expensive to acquire. It is also not easy for you to spend a lot of money for a device that you will use for just a short period of time in case you are in recovery process.
