By Ann Scott

There are many ways that a person can make a living. Becoming a public speaker is one of the greatest ways. However, one needs to be an expert on this part. Proper communication is required for people to get the message. Inspirational public speakers are important people in the community. They provide an inspiring message that transforms the way people live their lives. Here are several ways that one can become an effective motivational speaker.

Being nervous when talking to many people is a common thing. Many people who are nervous when talking do not have the confidence that their message will be effective. They focus on their weak points, and this can affect the way the message is passed to the audience. A good way of overcoming anxiety when speaking is by practicing before the presentation day. A person should look at their notes well and make sure that they are contented with it. A friend can also help in criticizing and removing mistakes.

Before creating the message, it is important for a presenter to know their audience. A speaker should learn about their listener well so that they can know the words to use when giving the message. Knowing the audience will also help one to know the level of information to give and the kind of examples to use.

Being organized is important, and it affects the effectiveness of the presentation. Therefore, one should organize their materials early enough. A person should outline their agenda by writing the topic they want to discuss, the main points and the purpose of the speech. Organizing the material will give the speech flow, and the audience will grab the important message.

As a public speaker, it is necessary to know how to keep the audience active. This is important since the audience will not get the right message should they get bored during the speech. Speeches require a little bit of humor for them to be interesting and capture the attention of individuals. Telling interesting and relevant stories will break the monotony in the room.

Nonverbal communication also plays a big part when delivering a speech. In most cases, the audience will look at the person who is delivering the message and how he or she is doing it. Therefore, a speaker should check on this posture when talking. He or she should use their voice and hands well to pass the message effectively.

Reading the message can interrupt the connection between a presenter and his or her audience. One should, therefore, avoid reading from their script. Maintaining the eye contact is important. Memorizing word by word can create a problem is one forgets. The important thing is to memorize the content and make an outline of the speech. Speaking naturally about the outlined points will be effective.

A presenter should know their mistakes and improve on them to become successful. This can be facilitated by filming the presentation and looking at it later. A person will be able to identify the areas that they made mistakes and correct them in their next speech. By filming the speech, one knows their strong and weak areas. These are the secrets of being a successful inspirational speaker.
