A coat to be used depends on type of material of the item say wood, metal among others.

These kind of coatings can also be used on furnishes found in households for the same protection function. Home furnishings such as dining tables, bathroom furnishes and kitchen cabinets when exposed to conditions of moisture or water rot with time. To prevent this, a layer of vanish is applied on them to prevent the process of rotting and hence enhance the longevity of the item.

Protective layers applied on items serve the functionality purpose as well as appearance purpose. Most surfaces of items are usually painted to increase their appeal and also to make them elegant. If manufactured items were to be distributed to consumers without finishing touches, they would never be bought because of their appearance.

Consumer gadgets like radios, televisions, DVD players among other items are usually unattractive after the assembling procedure. But once the coating is applied on them, they become attractive. In case of plastic items, certain kind of paint is used suitable for such items. In automobiles, the layers usually applied on them serve the purpose of protection against adverse situations. But manufacturers are now finding a new purpose for these coatings; the marketing purpose. Automobiles are nowadays being painted with preferred marketing message.

Airplanes do require a not so glossy finish on the outside and inside. Therefore the kind of coating to be used on the inside of the plane must bring out comfort and a sense of luxury. For the exterior part, the coating applied must protect plane from conditions that promote wear and tear of the craft.

In case of a vessel like a ship, the paint should be laid carefully. The paint must be of high quality considering the fact that these vessels usually travel on water and may be exposed to various harsh environments. These layers of varnish form a protective barrier which will prevent the ship from being destroyed by intense salt levels in seas and also fungi that might be present.

For a coating to pass the mark of standard and quality, it has to be environmentally friendly. This implies that the coat should not contaminate air or water sources. In order to get such products of quality, an individual ought to transact with recognized companies which produce such products. This is because such great companies have usually spent a lot in research process and development.

Various types of protective coatings exist. Some are made for vehicles others for vessels like ship. But when it comes to plastic items, special paint will have is used. Regardless of the paint used, the exterior of an item will be protected and its elegance greatly improved.
